The Institute of Guidance & Counseling is the only one established by a college which is none of teacher training system. Different from the traditional education activity which regards the school guidance as an emphasis, focus of tuition is put on all the possible problems that might happen to everybody in the community as the main subject matter. In order to achieve participating in community reform, the students of the institute also enthusiastically take part in various activities about mental health of the community, by way of developing the ability to popularize actively and positively. Concretely speaking, the teaching characteristic of the institute is based on the spirit of humanity concerns, equally emphasizing on the theory and practice, so as to explore students’ ability to provide the community inhabitants the most professional counseling and best psychological service.




To place emphasis on development of multi-culture and on proper match between individual and environment is the theme of discussion concerned by the academic circle of counseling psychology recent years, and the channel to put the issue above into practice is to set community counseling into action. Since the preparation of the institute the major purpose is to make Taiwan to be the only academic institution which fosters specialists in community counseling, and looking forward to building a healthy and harmonious culture for the community through the efforts of the institute.


The institute emphasizes on combination of guidance theory, practice, and research. Where teaching is concerned, first of all students take the courses of Psychological Foundation of Guidance & Counseling and Sociological Foundation of Guidance & Counseling to construct the microcosm and macrocosm of guidance field, and regard them as the core courses. Then, the foundation and profession courses are given to develop students’ comprehension and proficiency of counseling theory, research method, and community guidance. At last, several optional courses are given to strengthen the professional ability as a community counselor.
1. In order to achieve the goal of institute establishment and give consideration to the development of academic characteristic, the course structure of the institute is arranged to four levels, which are basic major course, core course, professional course, and optional course.
2. The graduation credit points of the Master’s Degree: basic major course 4 points, core course 15 points, professional course at least 5 points, and optional course 6 points, total 36 points.
3. According to the regulations of “The Psychologist Law,” students, who plan to take the National Examination to gain the qualification of clinical psychologist, take the related courses and practical training.
