Introduction

Founded in August 1998, the College is comprised of Department of Electrical Engineering (master's and doctoral programs available), Department of Electrical Engineering's master's and doctoral programs in Communications Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (master’s and doctoral programs available). Department of Civil Engineering (master's and doctoral programs available), Department of Applied Chemistry (master's and doctoral programs available), Department of Applied Chemistry's master's program in Biomedicine, Department of Applied Materials and Optoelectronic Engineering (master's program available)and Executive Master of Optoelectronic Technology. To pursue excellence in teaching and research, reputable scholars will be invited from foreign and domestic to join the College.

Interdisciplinary Researches and Programs

To foster and diversify students' ability and expertise, the College is committed to developing communications and multimedia (e.g. Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering), nanomaterials & optoelectronics (e.g. Department of Applied Materials and Optoelectronic Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Applied Chemistry), natural disaster prevention (e.g., Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering and biomedical and analytical technologies (e.g. Department of Applied Chemistry, Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Applied Materials and Optoelectronic Engineering). Interdisciplinary programs in flat panel display (FPD) and nano-biomedical technology are also offered by the College.

Academic Exchanges

The college hopes to strength our global vision, education quality and competitiveness by actively seeking and research opportunities and academic exchanges with other countries. The College, therefore, has been in collaboration with the following schools and institutes since 2007: Nokia, Taiwan Samsung, Chung-Shan Institute

of Science & Technology, Instrument Technology Research Center, The University of Texas at San Antonio, The University of Electro-Communications, Japan, Graduate Institute of Systems Design of Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan, School of Engineering and Computer Science, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan, Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences, National Research Council of Canada, College of Physical and Engineering Science, University of Guelph, Canada, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau, and College of Science and Engineering, Jinan University, China. On top of numerous visiting plans, faculty members and students Exchanges, research collaborations and symposiums that are being constantly held, our master's graduates have even been accepted by the doctoral program of Graduate Institute of Systems Design of Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan while our doctoral graduates have been accepted by our partner institutes for postdoctoral studies.

Prospective Development

-Strive to become a leading academic research institute in central Taiwan.
-Offer a wide range of courses in general education and the humanities to cultivate global perspectives in students.
-Create an optimal learning environment to enhance research quality, thereby encouraging patent applications and participation in intercollegiate contests.
-Establish inter-collegial/inter-departmental research groups on the basis of research areas and relatedness of our departments and graduate institutes. Integrate human hardware resources, and actively participate in university industry collaboration projects.
-Provide practicums and opportunities for hands-on training for students.

-Facilitate various exchanges (e.g. visits and exchange programs for teachers and students) with sister institutions and organize academic activities, such as inter national symposiums and research projects in order to expand the

global perspectives of our faculty and students. Innovative technology will also be developed through the integration of teaching and research.
